Job Opportunity - Marketing Manager

Smart Commute – North Toronto, Vaughan (www.SmartCommuteNTV.ca)

Full-Time Contract (12-month contract) 40 hrs per week

LOCATION:York University – Keele Campus (with travel in Toronto and Vaughan)
REPORTING TO: Executive Director
CLOSING DATE: July 27, 2010
SALARY:$39,000-$46,000 (pro-rated salary range per year)
START DATE: Immediate

Smart Commute - North Toronto, Vaughan (NTV) is seeking a Marketing Manager. This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic individual with a marketing/communications background and an interest in sustainable transportation. This position is for you if you are a highly organized and motivated individual with attention to detail and strong interpersonal skills. You are a creative, team-player with the ability to manage several projects simultaneously. You are comfortable and competent working with diverse individuals and groups. ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW

Smart Commute – North Toronto, Vaughan (NTV) is a dynamic award-winning not-for-profit organization. Our mandate is to improve commuter options and to reduce traffic congestion in the North Toronto, Vaughan and Northeast Toronto areas. We partner with local employers, educational institutions, property managers, and other organizations to provide transportation demand management (TDM) programs that help employees and students reduce drive-alone trips that result in traffic gridlock, smog, Greenhouse Gas emissions and other impacts to the environment, community and economy.

Our activities include developing, launching and monitoring trip reduction programs for medium- to largesized employers; education and marketing, and advocacy and policy input at all levels of government. We promote a menu of options for commuters, such as transit, ride-matching, shuttle bus services, vanpools, telecommuting, cycling and walking.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Marketing

Helps to increase brand recognition and maintain brand consistency for the organization and its programs.
Leads the print production process of marketing materials, ensuring engaging, valid and accurate content.
Manages outreach activities to engage commuters, partnering employers and potential partners (e.g., transportation fairs, ‘Lunch and Learns’, program launches).
Manages design and distribution of new Smart Commute communications/promotional pieces (e.g., graphics/print materials, promotional messaging, presentations, media advisories/releases).
Leads and seeks outs advertising and promotional opportunities.
Manages social media applications and maintains various online profiles.
Assists in Smart Commute’s strategic planning as pertains to communications.
Manages the Smart Commute NTV website and e-newsletter.
Day to day management of Smart Commute’s marketing programs to ensure projects meet their objectives.
Assists the Executive Director with public policy and government relations – representing Smart Commute NTV at relevant meetings, consultations and other industry events.

Administrative Support

Evaluates and maintains up-to-date records of media coverage, events, and other items.
Monitors media for key industry news and actions.
Other administrative support: arranges and prepares materials for meetings and takes minutes, prepares and sends correspondence, develops mailing lists/ contact databases, filing.
Submits media reports to Metrolinx

QUALIFICATIONS

The Marketing Manager’s role is vital to the success of Smart Commute – North Toronto, Vaughan (NTV) and is best suited to an energetic, creative, positive self-starter with the following qualifications:

2 to 5 years of work experience and post secondary degree in marketing/communications or a related field.
Strong understanding of social marketing and experience working with or within a not-for-profit organization
Background/interest in sustainable transportation (and environmental impacts), urban planning, and transportation demand management.
Professionalism in working with a variety of stakeholders of diverse interests and backgrounds.
Strong computer skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
Strong working knowledge of Content Management Systems, website-building, graphic design, and social media.
Strong interpersonal skills and a passion for making a difference.
Strong administrative, organizational and planning skills.
Capacity to work independently and demonstrate initiative in a team environment.
Willingness and ability to travel to sites within and around North Toronto and Vaughan areas.
